Forest Pansy delivers two separate seasonal spectacles. In early spring, clusters of vivid rose-pink flowers appear directly on the bare stems before any leaves emerge. As the flowers fade the large, heart-shaped leaves unfurl in rich burgundy-purple, gradually warming to green-bronze through summer before dropping in autumn. No other small deciduous tree combines spring flowers and coloured foliage quite so effectively.
Outstanding as a feature specimen in cottage, Japanese, and contemporary gardens. Works beautifully as an understorey tree in dappled shade. Excellent in mixed garden borders as a deciduous focal point. Suits Japanese, cottage, Hampton, and contemporary garden designs.
